The face of Jesus in a Dorito

The times when you can make an informed guess about what a market is going to do are relatively few and far between.

Most of the time the market is dominated by random noise.

Problem is, our brains work through pattern matching so we think we see things that are really random noise.

Oh yeah, you say…

Well what about this Dorito chip with the face of Jesus?

Divine intervention into my snack supply notwithstanding, there are times when guessing at it is even more retarded than usual.

Today is not one of those times.

Here’s a guide to when you might consider having a mad punt.

About 6 months total in the last 3 years you might have a shot at getting it right.

Those times are when the market is chasing it’s own tail higher.

It’s a phenomenon when the market goes up, and people start factoring in that it will continue to go up, which causes more people to buy… which causes the market to go up.

Cheat mode engaged.

The opposite of that is when the market is trapped in a low volatility trading range.

Take a look at TOTAL2 (ticker on tradingview, its the altcoin market)

At the top of the trading range things are a bit rich.

At the bottom, a bit cheap.

Right in the middle, nobody has a clue.

And we are right in the middle.

Edgeless. Adrift.

So what to do?

If you are are a directional punter betting on the things you like you are going to get ripped to shreds in a market like this.

But something is always moving.

There’s always scam coins dying, and ponzi coins pumping.

At FinRev we just do the obvious thing.

Bet on what’s going up. Short what’s going down.

Duh.
